About...me

Thanks for dropping by.

I am the illustrator/artist/designer behind Two Black Dogs, my little artistic outlet that gives me the chance to break out of the 9-5 normality of life.... and create.

Sometimes it's nice to know who is behind the front page of a website. So....Who am I, where am I, what do I enjoy?  I'm Kerri. I live in beautiful Brisbane, Queensland, Australia, have 1 wonderful husband, 2 gorgeous daughters, 2 black labradors, 1 black cocker spaniel, 1 cheeky galah,  2 lorikeets, 3 finch, a family of quail and 4 chickens.

I enjoy the outdoors, camping, working on my 1974 Ford, hanging with the kids, and training my dogs.….blah blah blah blah

I have a background in Graphic Design and Illustration, and I have just completed a Diploma in Art Therapy.

If I've missed anything, or you'd like chat, drop me a line at hello@twoblackdogs.com.au

Collaborations are always exciting.

In the meantime, I hope you enjoy visiting my creative space.

Tween Colouring Packs

My tween colouring packs are designed as a form of art therapy for our little ones, growing up in these really difficult times.
It is not easy being a tween in the 21st century, with social media and peer group pressure.  It is no wonder that our little ones that are trying to stand tall, are also crumpling under the pressure of just being 'them'.

I'm hoping that my range of illustrations, full of positive affirmations will be of some help when it comes to growing up.
These packs have 10 different designs, all printed on quality 140gsm stock and packaged in a handy folder.  I left the pages separate instead of binding them so that they can be coloured in and pasted on the bedroom wall, above their study desk or given to a friend.

Packs are available in my online shop HERE or I am more than happy to post out if you drop me an email.

Let's do our best to support our little ones.

Send a Coloured-In Message with Love

Colouring-In is a great form of Art Therapy and it is also really fun.  I've popped a few of my illustrations onto postcard sized pieces so that they can be quiickly coloured in , and popped into the post for the ones you love.

They come in an 8pk with envelopes (4 designs per pack).

Available in my online shop HERE or I am more than happy to post out if you drop me an email.

Framed Prints of Positive Affirmations

Let's face it......The world can be a pretty crappy place.  But a quick glance on the wall and hopefully one of my 'Positive Affirmation' prints will cheer you up.

All my prints are hand drawn by myself then reproduced so I can share the love with more of you wonderful peeps.
I hope they are put to good use, and help to brighten rain-brain days.

You can pick one up of your own or gift to a friend by visiting my online shop HERE or I am more than happy to post out if you drop me an email.

Illustration

I have always enjoyed illustrating, and I never have sketchbook far from hand.

A sketchbook is something that I can pick up at any stage of the day (when time allows). Waiting for the kids to come out of school, those insomnia moments at 2am, waiting at the doctors, stuck in traffic.

Hence where my postcard and colouring book creations have come from.  I have a bucket load of doodles, and will be brining more hand illustrated goodness to my online shop soon.

Two Black Dogs Repeats

I love designing repeat patterns!

There is something fun about seeing elements of your sketch book come together in the form of a repeat pattern that can be used on anything from furnishings to bags to garments.

My repeat prints can be found at Society 6.

Design

After leaving high school I studied Graphic Design (or Commercial Art as it was know back then, that is showing my age), and most work was illustrated or mocked up by hand.  These skills transferred through to the Adobe platform in my various work places.

I am always open to freelance work.

Feel free to drop me an email at hello@twoblackdogs.com.au

Refashioning and Upcycling

Fashion production makes up 10% of humanity's carbon emissions, dries up water sources, and pollutes rivers and streams. What's more, 85% of all textiles go to the dump each year (UNECE, 2018), and washing some types of clothes sends significant amount of microplastics into the ocean.

(Source https://www.genevaenvironmentnetwork.org/resources/updates/sustainable-fashion)

Having spent many years working in the fashion industry, combined with a love of sewing and 'making things',  I thought I'd put a little effort into upcycling unwanted garments, help the planet just a little bit, all the while enjoying the relaxation and meditative benefits of creating.

I'm hoping to create more little pieces in the future like heat/cold packs and small totes using these garments that still have a little life to give before they add to the worlds landfill woes, and will list them on my Square site as the become available.

But in the meantime, in a world of fast fashion it is best to choose garments wisely when shopping.  Choose pieces that can mix and match, and made from materials that will last longer; if possible choose natural fibers that will break down when they do hit landfill. It may mean paying a bit more, but it is worth it in the long run, but for your hip pocket and our environment.

Bunny Snores and Bouncing Paws

Bunny Snores and Bouncing Paws is a book written by my good friend and partner in crime, Jo Reid-Speirs, and illustrated by myself :

Jo  has a long and very extensive background within the education industry, Her knowledge and understanding of how children learn is the key to her writing.

We formed Scribbles and Rhymes 2019, and have more books planned for the future.

Watch this space.

In the meantime, please read below Jo's description of this amazing children's book.

ABOUT this learning tool

Building number sense in a child’s early years is the foundation for success in mathematics in their later years. The delightful finger play story of ‘Bunny Snores and Bouncing Paws’ presents verbal, written and symbolic representations of number in a fun and engaging way. The use of finger actions helps to develop a child’s number sense as they build on their perception and representation of numbers using fingers throughout the story.

‘Bunny Snores and Bouncing Paws’ can be sung to familiar tunes or chanted. This creates a powerful memory aid for children as they recall and represent essential number facts to ten.

As ‘Bunny Snores and Bouncing Paws’ is read, children are encouraged to use their fingers as they progress through the story. Once all the bunnies are ready to run and bounce outdoors, children should use their fingers to jump and bounce! The countdown represented in ‘Bouncing Paws and Bunny Snores’, further reinforces a child’s perception and representation of numbers using fingers.

The additional images in the book can promote discussion relating to a range of mathematical concepts. The time on the wall clock changes in five minute intervals prompting discussion relating to elapsed time.  ‘The vivid designs on the bedspreads promotes discussion relating to patterns, shape, symmetry, line, arrays and fractions.

Whilst this book is written for children, it is a great resource for teachers and parents as they engage with children in the early years to build number sense.  This multisensory book provides a feast of visual stimuli as well as auditory, language, rhythmic and movement experiences for children.
